Symetra Benefit Enhancements

 We are very excited about this change as it is bringing enhancements to our already great benefit! Below highlights the disability plan enhancements:

  • New 90 Day Elimination Period Plan Design
  • Higher minimum monthly 
    • Cigna Plan had a minimum disability benefit of $100
    • Symetra Plan will have a minimum benefit of the Greater of 10% of Gross Monthly Benefit or $100
  • Higher Any Occupation Earnings Test after disability benefits are payable for 24 months.
    • Cigna measured disability at 60% of your Indexed Earnings
    • Symetra will use a measure of 80% of your Indexed Earnings
  • Higher Lump Sum Survivor Benefit. This is a benefit that is payable if you die while collecting disability benefits. A lump sum payment may be paid to your eligible
    • The Cigna benefit paid 3 times your gross monthly benefit
    • The Symetra benefit will pay 6 times your gross monthly benefit
  • There is an addition of an Additional Catastrophic benefit. This benefit pays you an additional benefit (20% monthly benefit up to a maximum of $5,000) on top of your disability benefit if you are unable to safely and completely perform two of your Activities of Daily Living (i.e. bathing, dressing, toiling, transferring or eating).
    • How this benefit works: if you make $60,000 and are on the 60% disability benefit plan:
      • Regular monthly benefit = $3,000 (60% of your monthly income)
      • Additional Catastrophic benefit = $1,000 (20% of your monthly income)
        • Total Benefit received per month = $4,000

*If you are out of work due to disability prior to January 1, 2017, your policy will not change over to Symetra until you return to work.
